As suspected Whing and Brown replaced Forbes and Chorley in an otherwise unchanged team. Patulea joined Téhoué, Walker,
Millwood, Cestor, Butcher and Odubajo on the subs bench. Odubajo actually got a mention on the Orient website. If there
is one thing guaranteed to wind me up, amongst many, it is meaningless stats. The fact that we had not won there since
1987 means what? Have the same players been playing each other these past 27 years, Course not. So what does the stat
mean? Nothing today. Dawson put us up in ten minutes and the man we thought might not be able to play 120 minutes on a
Tuesday as well as a Saturday (McGleish) made it two nil two minutes into first half extra time when a M’Poku shot
rebounded off the keepers chest and Scotty rounded him and tapped it home. Brown J was still to record a goalless game
as Brown A gave away a bookable free kick from which Tranmere scored but that was the way it stayed. Téhoué replaced
McGleish after 78 and M’Poku went off to make way for Walker on 85. Makes you wonder whether we have found a defensive
combination that can play together. The return of Chorley against Plymouth next Saturday may clear that thought up.
Teams around us picked up points. Dagenham at Carlisle got three whilst Notts and Plymouth won at home. Two of the clubs
I tipped for relegation, Bristol Rovers and Yeovil were in the bottom four along with Dagenham and Walsall. Still it
moved us up four places to 16th only six points from a play off place! On the downside only two from a relegation
place!!!
Some soccer websites are hopeless at keeping up-to-date. Give Me Football is one such site with team profiles still
showing Morris, Andrew Cave-Brown, Kristian O'Leary, Tamika Mkandawire (twice!), Aiden Palmer, Sean Thornton, Jason
Demetriou, Loick Pires, Harry Baker, James Scowcroft, Efe Echanomi and Wayne Cordon on the playing staff!
Walker was given an extended contact until Jan 10. Solomon Shields joined Leyton, he had been playing for St Albans
where Mark Peters is still playing and Moses Odubajo was on loan.
Former O Ralph Coates died on the 17 December at Luton and Dunstable Hospital following a stroke. Coates played 84 games
for the club between 1978 and 1981, scoring 12 goals, including nine in the 1979/80 season.
And that was how the year ended as games at home against Plymouth and MK Dons and the away match at Hartlepool were lost
to the weather. Brown J returned to Blackburn without keeping a clean sheet but praising the defenders in front of him.
