Previous page Page one. Page two, Page three, Page four He’s not short of a shirt is our Kent. 1 August. We signed trialist defender Jamie Sendles-White who spent last season at Swindon Town, on a one-year deal. He never played for QPR despite being on their books at 15. Nor did he for Colchester whilst on loan but he did at Mansfield in October 2014. He switched to Scotland in order to sign for Hamilton Academicals. The Northern Ireland youth international defender made a total of seven appearances during six months at New Douglas Park before agreeing to terminate his contract in January 2016, joining Swindon. Dayton, agreed a two-year deal with the O’s following a successful trial period. We lost 1-5 to an Arsenal U23 side. Bonne scored our goal. Kevin Nugent joined Millwall as their U23 coach. Ryan Brunt joined Exeter. Kevin Nolan signed Nicky Hunt. Team numbers were announced: 1 Charlie Grainger, 2 Jake Caprice, 3 Joe Widdowson, 4 Alex Lawless, 5 George Elokobi, 6 Jamie Sendles-White, 7 Jobi McAnuff, 8 Charlie Lee, 9 Macauley Bonne, 10 David Mooney, 11 Romuald Boco, 12 Sam Sargeant, 14 Myles Judd, 15 Aron Pollock, 16 Michael Clark, 17 Henry Ochieng, 18 Josh Coulson, 19 Josh Koroma, 20 Tristan Abrahams, 21Sam Dalby, 22 Freddy Moncur, 23 Craig Clay, 27 James Dayton, 30 Christian Scales. 5 August. Away to Sutton 2-0. It’s going to be a long, hard season. Mistakes by Widdowson who gave away a penalty and Grainger gave Sutton the points on their artificial turf which may be why they won a lot at home and lost a lot away from home last season to finish 12th. I said we should have signed a keeper and maybe the new goalkeeping coach Dean Brill could don the gloves again. He is only 31. No shot on target until 73’. Team: 1 Grainger, 2 Caprice, 18 Coulson, 8 Lee, 3 Widdowson, 5 Elokobi, 4 Lawless, 27 Dayton , 7 McAnuff, 10Mooney, 9 Bonne. Substitutes: 11 Boco(Dayton 83'), 12 Sargeant, 16 Clark, 19 Koroma(McAnuff 69'), 23 Clay(Lee 79'). Only five subs needed at this level. Bottom. Lee and Bonne were booked. 8 August. Home to Solihull Moors 3-1 (Lee, Mooney, Elokobi). Team of thugs. Looking at the few player profiles the Moors were made up of manly players who had not played in the league or played very little. Seven players had never played league football. Someone behind me thought the referee was at a rugby match. Three times we hit the woodwork in the first half before Lee scrambled us into the lead. It was not until Mooney put us two up following a low cross from Caprice, that we looked safe. They got one back before Elokobi struck on 78’ from a Dayton corner. Four Moors players were booked. No wonder they have 30 players. Caprice was named man of the match. Grainger continues to be a worry. Team: 1 Grainger, 2 Caprice, 18 Coulson, 8 Lee, 3 Widdowson, 5 Elokobi, 4 Lawless, 27 Dayton , 7 McAnuff, 10 Mooney, 9 Bonne. Substitutes: 11 Boco(McAnuff 86'), 12 Sargeant, 16 Clark, 19 Koroma(Dayton 90+2'), 23 Clay(Lee 75'). Up to 9th with Aldersot and Dagenham at the top. Three from bottom are Maidstone and that is who we have next at home. 12 August. Home to Maidstone 2-0 (Mooney, Boco). Ex O’s Loza and Finney did not feature in this match. A lot of patient build up led to nothing in the first half. A Dayton cross found the head of Mooney to break the deadlock on 60’. We started with the same team as Tuesday and again three subs were used. Bonne had plenty of chances but failed to take any of them. Boco came on for Dayton on 86’ and scored with considerable aplomb on 90’ to put the game beyond the Stones. Up to fourth and away to ninth place Bromley on Tuesday. Team: 1 Grainger, 2 Caprice, 18 Coulson, 8 Lee, 3 Widdowson, 5 Elokobi, 4 Lawless, 27 Dayton , 7 McAnuff, 10 Mooney, 9 Bonne. Substitutes: 11 Boco(Dayton 86'), 12 Sargeant, 16 Clark, 19 Koroma(McAnuff 79'), 23 Clay(Mooney 79'). Elokobi was my man of the match. 5085 saw the match but only 1938 saw top of the table Aldershot maintain their 100% record with a 6-0 home win over Guiseley. Cox is not seeing much action under the new manager for my tip for relegation, Crawley Town. Was not even in the line up yesterday but started in the 5-1 defeat in the cup to Birmingham. 15 August 15. Away to Bromley. 6-1 (Bonne). Sussed or unlucky? Davis rested McAnuff and Dayton for this one and replaced them with Boco and Koroma. It didn’t work as we went a goal down on 11’ with a header (poor marking from Elokobi) from ex O George Porter. A second was added before half time. McAnuff and Dayton returned for the second half which we lost 4-1. Grainger needs to learn to palm the ball into touch rather that into play. This happened several times last season and twice in this match albeit aided and abetted by Caprice for one of them. A gift by, I think Lee for the last one which Grainger went down before the ball was put into an empty net. Team: 1 Grainger, 2 Caprice, 18 Coulson, 8 Lee, 3 Widdowson, 5 Elokobi, 4 Lawless, 10 Mooney, 11 Boco, 9 Bonne. Substitutes: 12 Sargeant, 16 Clark, 19 Koroma(Dayton 45’), 23 Clay, 27 Dayton, 7 McAnuff(Boco 45’). Down to 11th. Pollock was loaned to Wealdstone. 19 August. Away to Woking. 0-2 (Bonne 2). Goalless at half time Bonne scored five minutes into the restart slotting home a low cross from Caprice. Four minutes from time Elokobi broke down a Working move passing to Mooney who edged the defender out of the way and passed to Bonne on the left wing ten yards into the Cards half. Bonne out ran the defender before putting past the keeper. Team: 1 Grainger, 2 Caprice, 18 Coulson, 8 Lee, 3 Widdowson, 5 Elokobi, 4 Lawless, 27 Dayton , 7 McAnuff, 10 Mooney, 9 Bonne. Substitutes: 11 Boco(Dayton 90'), 12 Sargeant, 6 Sendles-White, 19 Koroma(McAnuff 89'), 23 Clay(Lee 69'). Up to 8th. Aldershot lost the top spot to Sutton after a defeat away to Boreham Wood. Bromley beat Hartlepool to take second place, bit of a trip but not the longest as Barrow travelled to Dover for a point. Solihull remained bottom with one point from four matches. Paul McCallum has played three matches without scoring and Eastleigh is who we play next Saturday. He didn’t play this weekend. Injured? Two new members were added to the board, Richard Emmett, 61, serves as Chief Legal and Human Resources Officer for Dunkin’ Brands, Inc. David Travis, 38, has been a O's fan since birth after Grandfather and Father (Nigel) dragged him to Brisbane Road as a baby. Lee would be out for an extended time after a training injury. Scales was loaned to Harlow. The Club appointed Lewis Spencer and Jimmy Unwin as Academy Manager and Head of Coaching. 26 August. Home to tenth place Eastleigh 1-1 (Clay). Penalties again. Mooney missed one, they scored one. This was a niggling foul ridden match in which the goalie, amongst others wasted time which was to rebound on them when Clay scored in the 8th minute of added time after 90. Caprice crossed to the far post for Clay to score. It is still taking far too long to get into the opponents half. Not sure we are using McAnuff to his full potential as by the time he gets the ball, along with other forwards, he is surrounded by three of the opposition. Team: 1 Grainger, 2 Caprice, 18 Coulson, 23 Clay, 3 Widdowson, 5 Elokobi, 4 Lawless, 27 Dayton , 7 McAnuff, 10 Mooney, 9 Bonne. Substitutes: 11 Boco(McAnuff 69'), 12 Sargeant, 6 Sendles-White, 32 Ochieng,19 Koroma(Mooney 69'). Widdowson and Clay were not very good today. Talk in the clubroom was about the possible return of Cox. It was thought his wages would be a problem. At the Meet the Manager night concerns were raised about the goalkeepers we have and would another be signed. Ling raised the possibility of signing another striker as we are short in that department. Rumour had it that Sam Dalby had been signed by Crystal Palace and played for them during the week though that move does not appear anywhere on the web. Away to the team just below us in the table next, Maidenhead. Photo below. Back row: Phillips(?), Pollock, Bonne, Clay, ?, Coulson, Sendles-White, Happe, Dalby, Clark, Widdowson, Elokobi.
